I guess there’s no escaping the word “selfie” now. Many OEMs have integrated that word into some features of their phone. Like the front-facing camera on the HTC One M8 is the “Selfie Camera” and Huawei has the “Groufie” for group selfies. Now there’s a new report out from Evleaks that AT&T and HTC are working on a new Selfie phone that is being named the HTC Eye. According to HTC, AT&T is already testing this phone which usually means that it’s coming soon.
The HTC One M8 already comes with a 5MP front-facing camera. So we’d expect the HTC Eye to come with a higher megapixel count on the front. But then again, they wouldn’t be the first to do this. As there are plenty of smartphones out there that have 8MP front-facing cameras already. Most of them available in China and even Europe, but they are out there. Otherwise, I’d expect the specs to be pretty similar to the HTC One M8 which they launched earlier this year. Those specs include a 5-inch 1080p SuperLCD3 display, 2GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 16GB or 32GB of storage and a 2600mAh battery. The HTC One M8 also has front-facing speakers, which I’m sure will be on the HTC Eye, but they might be smaller, like the ones we see on the Desire lineup of devices. So that they have room for the bigger front-facing camera.
It’ll be interesting to see the presentation for this device, and what kind of features the front-facing camera has. I’m sure there will be plenty of features, for the front-facing camera and plenty with the word “Selfie” in it. Although this sounds like another exclusive for AT&T.
