Verizon's "Smart Rewards" Program set to go Nationwide on Thursday, July 24th

Verizon has had their own little “Smart Reward” program live for a little while in select cities. What this does is Verizon will reward you with discounts at local restaurants, stores and traveling, if you use select services from Verizon. This program has been live in a few cities since earlier this year, but now big red is looking to move it nationwide beginning later this week. It’s going to be named “Verizon Smart Rewards”.

Beginning July 24th, all you’ll need to do is perform actions like logging into My Verizon, and paying your bill, choosing Verizon Trade in and choosing Paperless billing, and you’ll begin receiving points that can be redeemed for rewards as they build up. These will be redeemable through your smartphone or online, through auctions, giveaways, and more. They include up to 40% off over 200 brands. As well as travel discounts at more than 26,000 hotels, and special promotions, such as chances to win NFL game tickets for your favorite team. Bet that isn’t the Detroit Lions, now is it?

You’ll need to sign up for Verizon Smart Rewards, and then every dollar you spend will go towards your your points. It means that Verizon will be able to show your browsing habits to advertisers, but that’s something that Google already does, so is it really that big of a deal? I’d say no. It’s important to remember that you don’t get enrolled into Verizon Smart Rewards automatically. You actually need to login to your Verizon account and do it yourself either on July 24th or shortly after.

it doesn’t seem like an innovative approach to loyalty programs, but it is something that Verizon hasn’t done before, and it could lead to some great discounts on things you already buy, or get some tickets to go see your favorite team, whether that be NBA, NFL, or another sport.
