The device that we’ve been hearing about for what feels like forever is finally an official product of Samsung’s and just as we thought, the Galaxy Alpha is being portrayed as a device for those that are looking for a little more luxury with their smartphone. The device has been officially announced by Samsung’s own Samsung Tomorrow blog and if you were still holding out for a much better Galaxy S5, you might be more than a little disappointed. However, the Galaxy Alpha is one good-looking device, and one that might help sway those glued to their iPhones due to better build quality.
As we’ve been hearing for the last few weeks, the Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display, which is just a 1280 x 720 panel, which is a little bizarre to see. Still, under-the-hood Samsung haven’t skimped with an octa-core Exynos CPU of their own design and a fairly ample 2GB of RAM to keep things chugging along nicely. At 115g in weight, and 6.7mm thick it’s pretty clear that Samsung is chasing form over function here, which is perhaps just what Samsung needed in their lineup. The metal built device features an 1,860 mAh battery, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera. It also doesn’t feature the same waterproofing or fingerprint sensors found in the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S5 Mini. However, it does support 300mbps LTE-Advanced thanks to Cat6 support, but this is of to be little importance to anyone outside of South Korea, sadly.
Running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and presumably the same build of TouchWiz made popular by the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Alpha is more about style than anything else and the color choices back that fact up nicely. It’ll be available in gold, white, black, silver and blue. Each of the colors look pretty fetching, if you’re into that sort of thing and you can take a closer look in the gallery below. While the Galaxy Alpha seems to be nothing more than a mid-range device dressed up, we’re sure Samsung isn’t willing to push the price much higher. After all, building a device out of metal isn’t cheap and if you want to make money, this cost will need to be passed on, as such a metal Galaxy S5 with all those specs and such would take the price tag beyond what most people will be comfortable with.

The Galaxy Alpha will be available worldwide, with countries seeing the device one after another, starting in September 2014. We’ll surely be seeing more of the Galaxy Alpha next month at IFA in Berlin, and if we have any more info, we’ll update this post accordingly.
