Android How To: Track Data Usage on the Huawei Ascend Mate 7

Huawei drastically changed their custom skin on the Ascend Mate 7 compared to the Mate 2 earlier this year. There’s a lot of things that are different this time around. And one of those things is data usage. You’d expect it to be located in the phone’s settings right? Just like it is on every other device. Well it is, but it isn’t. It’s actually in an app called “Phone Manager”. Which has a few other goodies in there as well. Including Power Saving, Phone Accelerator, and many other options and features to use. If you tap on “Networked Apps”, you’ll see your data usage. You can also find this in settings under the apps section.

Once you’re in the Networked Apps, you’ll see your apps sorted by the amount of mobile data used. It’ll show the amount it used right under the name of the app. Then there is a checkmark next to it for Mobile data and WiFi. What this allows you to do is disable mobile data or wifi for each specific app, which is a big deal. Now your system apps aren’t listed there. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you’ll see “System Applications” and from there you can see what’s using your data. Whether it be Google+, Google Play, Hangouts, or something else.

It’s really nice to have that much control over your data usage, especially on a per app basis. It’s something that I think Google needs to work into Stock Android, especially with data limits being so low these days. We have a video walkthrough of the data usage section of the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 down below for those interested.
