A couple of new wearables were announced at IFA last week, and well now we are hearing that AT&T will have the exclusive on both the Intel MICA Smartband and the Filip 2. The MICA is said to be a premium female fashion accessory from Intel. It does have communication capabilities that can be used for work and/or entertainment. So those worried that the recent crop of Android Wear devices weren’t all that great, well worry no more, as there is the Intel MICA coming to AT&T.
“MICA is unlike any other product we’ve connected before and it stands alone in terms of design and functionality,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Emerging Device. “This is a product that puts fashion first while allowing users to remain connected.”
The Filip 2 is a smartband that’s for kids. So that you can keep track of where your kids are with the Filip 2, which is actually a pretty neat idea. Especially if your kid has a lot of extra curricular activities going on.
“The FiLIP 2 is built to be even more flexible so that it grows along with the child using it,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Emerging Devices, AT&T Mobility. “FiLIP 2 is unique because it’s the only wearable device with standalone voice and text capabilities intended for children. It allows parents to stay connected with their child, while still giving them space to be kids.”
So far there’s no word on pricing or availability of the Intel MICA smartband, nor the Filip 2. However, AT&T did announce that the original Filip would be on sale for $99 starting September 12th, and running until the Filip 2 is on sale. How many of you are interested in either the Intel MICA or the Filip 2 wearables that AT&T will start carrying soon?
