Samsung has been making plastic (or polycarbonate if you wish) smartphones for years now. Then we started seeing some leaks that this Korean giant is getting ready to release a metallic phone. This was hard to believe at first, though we quickly changed our minds considering tons of leaks came out over the period of a few months. We knew basically everything there was to know about this phone before it even launched. Samsung unveiled this Galaxy Alpha premium-built phone last month and the metallic build definitely gives the device a classier look than the plastic materials they normally use. Most people had issues with the internals though as this isn’t exactly a flagship phone, and we’ll get more into the specs a bit later.
This not being the flagship phone and not sporting flagship specs didn’t stop Samsung from putting a hefty price tag on the device. Talking about price, you can now get an unlocked Galaxy Alpha smartphone for $699 from Expansys. Now let’s talk specs. The Galaxy Alpha is featuring a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) Super AMOLED display along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable internal storage. The device is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 5430 octa-core processor (four quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7) which comes with Mali-T628 MP6 GPU for graphics. On the back of the device you can find a 12-megapixel camera and a LED flash while there’s a 2.1-megapixel shooter on the front of the device. Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on the device with Samsung’s skin on top of it and the device is sporting an 1860mAh battery. A fingerprint sensor is also a part of the package.
