Back in February, Gionee announced the Elfie S5.5, the world’s thinnest smartphone I believe. This phone was only 5.5 millimeters thin, as its name suggests. Then about a month ago, reports started coming in that Gionee is preparing yet another smartphone which will be event thinner than the Elfie S5.5. Many people outside of China haven’t even heard of this Gionee and they are breaking records when it comes to how thin smartphones are. This upcoming phone is said to be only 5 millimeters thick, which is kinda crazy if you think about it.
Either way, we have some images for you directly from China, Chinese social network Weibo that is. There are 7 images in the gallery below for you to check out in what seems to be a turquoise color. The device’s model number is GN9005 and is only 5mm thick, which shows. Design is pretty straightforward, it actually reminds me of iPhone a bit, except it doesn’t sport a physical home button.
As it’s TENAA (Chinese FCC) certification was suggesting, this device is going to sport a 4.8-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display and will be powered by a 1.2GHz Xiaolong 400 processor. 1GB of RAM will be included for all your multitasking needs along with 16GB of internal storage. 8-megapixel camera will be located at the back of the device with a 5-megapixel secondary shooter up front. The device will come with Android 4.3 pre-installed and will sport a 2050mAh battery.
I have never handled a Gionee device before, and I bet vast majority of you haven’t either. I can’t exactly speak of build quality, but this device looks solid. For all those of you who love simple and yet somewhat elegant design this might do. Unfortunately the device will probably not be available worldwide, there’s still no information when it comes to availability though, so it’s just a guess at this point. Would you be interested in a device like this next to all those other ones that are available (or will be soon) from well-known manufacturers? Do you think 5 millimeters is a bit too thin?
