Literally hours ago Meizu officially unveiled their new device, the Meizu MX4. Just in case you missed our report the MX4 offers a 5.36-inch full HD 1080p (1920 x 1152, 418ppi) display, is powered by MediaTek’s MT6595 Octa-core processor (four ARM Cortex-A17 processor and four Cortex-A7 processors), 3GB RAM and is available in 16, 32 or 64GB versions. The specs are not particularly breath-taking and we are far more likely to get excited towards the end of the week when the big releases are unleashed at IFA. However since, the release of the MX4, Meizu has raised the game (and interest) by also announcing their new wearable device, the InWatch MX4 Edition. As the name suggests Meizu have teamed up with inWatch (a Wearable technology company) to offer this smartwatch but what is really interesting is the device will go on sale at only $65. This is a significant drop in price compared to what is already on the market and what we expect to see released at IFA like the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R.
So what do you get for $65? Well not much but you do get a smartwatch. The initial design and appearance of the InWatch MX4 looks very similar to the Moto 360 with a round screen measuring 35mm in diameter. The screen seems to be made of metal with a sapphire glass front. According to information the InWatch MX4 is designed with both women and men in mind and as such is being launched as a unisex device and will be available in three colors, gold, silver and black. At the moment the actual detailed specs of the watch are extremely limited with no information provided on the resolution, display or otherwise. However, we are hearing the device has basic functionality including setting reminders and alarms. Another interesting factor is this seems to be a battery powered device (not re-chargeable) and the battery life is suggested to last between 3 and 6 months. After this the battery will have to be replaced.
As we already mentioned the device is being offered at an extremely low $65 price tag but it also being sold as a package along with the newly released MX4 smartphone. The two together will set you back $325. So what do we think? It does seem basic compared to the upcoming Moto 360 and LG G Watch R however the price is also very basic and for those wanting a basic smartwatch to be part of the in-crowd without spending a fortune this could be a solution.
