Meizu MX4 has been leaked for a long time now. Meizu has finally unveiled the device in Beijing and it is basically what we’ve been expecting and seen thus far. So, let’s get down to it, shall we. Hardware is the first stop we’ll make here, Meizu MX4 is sporting a 5.36-inch full HD 1080p (1920 x 1152, 418ppi) display, which is a bit odd screen size and 15:9 ratio. The device is powered by MediaTek’s MT6595 octa-core processor which uses big.LITTLE architecture with four ARM Cortex-A17 processor and four Cortex-A7 processors. 2GB of RAM is included in the device for all your multitasking needs along with 16, 32 or 64GB of internal storage, depending on which version you buy of course. 3100mAh non-removable battery is located in the device to make sure you don’t run out of juice in the middle of the day along with PowerVR Series 6 GPU which according to Meizu is 88% more powerful than the GPU in its predecessor. Meizu also claims the processor is 87% faster than the one in Meizu MX3, flash memory is faster as well according to Meizu, a whopping 200% faster. 20.7-megapixel camera from Sony (IMX 200, 1 / 2.3 CMOS) with a new dual tone, dual LED flash is located at the back of the device and is capable of recording a 4K video, while there’s a 5-megapixel shooter up front. Usual array of sensors are included here and these are the device’s dimensions 75.2 x 144 x 7.9mm.
As far as software goes, Meizu MX4 comes with Android 4.4.4 pre-installed with Meizu’s very own Flyme 4.0 OS on top of it. Meizu said that ART (Android Run Time) is active as soon as you power on the device, which is a good thing. China-based manufacturer has revamped its Flyme OS and it looks a lot better now, at least according to them. The UI is more flat now and they basically re-designed everything. Along with the revamp, Meizu redesigned more than 1,000 third-party application icons, 100 third-party notification icons and over 500 popular sites icons. The OS itself now has more reliable security according to Meizu, as well as some added features like the voice assistant and reading center with recommendation articles. You also get up to 40TB of cloud storage. Meizu MX4 is Meizu’s first 4G smartphone, it supports China Mobile and China Unicom’s 4G networks and is backward compatible with 3G and 2G bands. This is for now of course, Meizu will alter the bands for different markets. As far as Wi-Fi goes, MX4 supports the latest 802.11ac and dual band 2.4 and 5GHz. GPS, GLONASS, Compas and other global positioning systems are also supported here.
Meizu MX4 comes in gray, white and gold colors and as I said above, it will be available in 16, 32, and 64GB variants. 16GB version is priced at 1799 yuan (approximately $292), 32GB version will set you back 1999 yuan ($325) and the most expensive 64GB version will cost 2399 yuan which is approximately $390. These prices actually seem quite affordable and if this device launches globally it could appeal to customers.
