ASUS has been making Android tablets since the very beginning of Android tablets and while they’ve shifted their focus to the more budget-orientated end of the market, they keep on delivering some excellent experiences without breaking the bank. The MeMO Pad line of tablets is one great example of where ASUS is focusing on the most important aspects of a tablet, without causing their users to balk at their prices. The MeMo Pad 7 has been out for a little while now, but during IFA in Berlin, the company is giving it a fresh coat of paint and packing in some new technology to boot.
Those interested in design will be either confused or happy to hear that ASUS has modeled the new MeMO Pad 7 after clutch bags and wallets, and it’ll be available in black, red and gold and while they do look quite fetching, the MeMO Pad 7 is also a little thinner coming in at 8.3mm thick and weighs just 269 grams. Built with a fiberglass body, its duralumin frame and slim screen bezels do give this guy a nice premium look that betray its price tag. Under the hood, we’re looking at a quad-core Intel Atom CPU clocked at 1.83 Ghz and is 64-bit to boot. Elsewhere, there is 2GB of RAM, as well as a choice of 16 or 32GB of storage which is exapandable. On the camera front, we’ve got a 5-megapixel shooter at the back and a 2-megapixel shooter upfront.
ASUS’ UI modifications are applied to Android 4.4 KitKat here and the 1920 x 1200 IPS panel should certainly help things stand out a little more than other budget-minded tablets. Speaking of budget, the new MeMO Pad 7 is to go on sale for just €199 in the near future, with the ME572CL LTE model costing a little extra. All-in-all, this is a decent budget offering from ASUS that doesn’t feel cheap and won’t let you down when it comes to lasting an entire day on a single charge.
