As much as we didn’t think we’d see it here in the US. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is making it’s way into the US. And it’s stopping at AT&T, who loves to get exclusives. While we aren’t 100% sure that this is an exclusive for AT&T, right now they are the only carrier that’s confirmed carrying the Galaxy Alpha. So there’s that. The Galaxy Alpha won’t be cheap either. It’ll be sporting a price tag of $612.99 unlocked, and $199 on contract. However, if you want to take advantage of AT&T Next 12 $0 down and $30.65/month and AT&T Next 18 will be $0 down and $25.55/month. So it’s priced right up there with the Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, and HTC One M8.
The Galaxy Alpha does have a 4.7-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage without a microSD card slot, 12-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2.1-megapixel camera on the front, Android 4.4.4 KitKat and a 1860mAh battery inside.
“We are excited to offer you yet another industry leading smartphone with the announcement of the Galaxy Alpha on the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network,2 covering more than 300 million Americans,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – Devices, AT&T. “The Samsung Galaxy Alpha marries sleek, premium design with all of the great features and Samsung technology that you have come to expect from a Galaxy product.”
It’s clear that the Galaxy Alpha is Samsung’s answer to the iPhone 6. Although launching on just one carrier in the US isn’t really going to help them combat the iPhone 6 anyways. But if they had made it a bit cheaper – which is possible since they went with a 720p display instead of a 1080p – I think they’d have a definite iPhone killer on their hands. As they’d sell a ton of them. Not that they won’t sell a ton anyways. How many of you are excited to check out the Galaxy Alpha on AT&T this week?
