Google has announced 3 new Nexus devices earlier this month, Nexus 6, 9 and Nexus Player. Along with those devices this tech giant has also introduced a new version of company’s 0perating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop. This new version of Android brings a ton of improvements to the Android OS and also a redesigned UI. Google is introducing “Material Design” which is basically a skeuomorphic approach to the functionality side of the OS. You’ll see movements of basically every element on the screen and so on. Google will probably start rolling out Android 5.0 to Nexus devices at the beginning of November when the company is also launching Nexus 6 and 9 devices. Some manufacturers have already announced when their devices will receive this update and which ones will get it of course, like Motorola, HTC and Sony. Asus is joining this club of manufacturers considering the company has announced which Asus devices will be receiving the update and when can we expect it to rollout.
According to a post on the company’s ZenTalk forums, the rollout will begin starting April 2015, which is rather late actually. Many smartphone manufacturers will already roll out the 5.0 update to their devices by then, hopefully, Asus will manage to deliver the update sooner. Anyhow, Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 will get the update first and Padfone S along with Padfone Infinity A86 will follow soon after that. The rollout should be completed by June 2015. Asus didn’t give out any details when the features / changes are concerned, but their Zen UI will quite probably get redesigned in order to adapt to Material Design guidelines Google has rolled out, we should see some new software features in there as well as part of Zen UI. Do you own one of these devices? I can imagine some of you are irritated Asus won’t start rolling out Lollipop until April next year, hopefully, something will change in the coming weeks, though I doubt that.
