A Closer Look at The Meizu MX4 Pro Features

Meizu has launched the Meizu MX4 Pro quite recently, check out our announcement post and a full specs article before you read this. In this article we’ll focus on Meizu MX4 Pro’s features, in other words look at certain parts of this phone in more detail, every device has some main features you should know about, Meizu MX4 Pro is no different. Anyhow, let’s dig in and see what’s what.

The first thing you’ll notice on this device is its display, a beautiful 5.5-inch 2K (2560 x 1536, 546PPI) panel. This display uses a NEGA negative LCD panel with LED backlight in order to produce beautiful images and reduce battery consumption. Meizu also uses so-called Panel Self Refresh (PSR) technology which keeps the visuals playing longer and energy consumption on par with the screen on the original MX4. Meizu decided to include Samsung’s Exynos 5430 octa-core chip in this handset in order to run it. This processor is built-in 20nm technology and it uses big.LITTLE architecture (Cortex A7 + Cortex A15). This, of course, helps the chip consume less energy and it has an independent mobile imaging compressor. Mali-T628 MP6 GPU comes with this CPU and will take care of image processing.

Next up, we’ll talk about the so called mTouch. This is basically a security feature, a fully encrypted security feature which will unlock only to your fingerprint. Meizu says it actually does it faster than you can blink. Pressing the fingerprint scanner, reading the data and confirming that’s in fact you, takes less than 0.5 seconds according to the company and you can even unlock it with wet fingertips, sounds good, right? Retina Sound is the next feature we’ll talk about. Meizu really did go far in order to introduce some quality audio components in this handset. ES9018 and OPA1612 chips combined with a passive filter should provide deep base and crisp sounds, not to mention it will be loud, 123db has been mentioned in the press conference, that’s… well, solid.

Dual 4G connectivity is also something worth mentioning. 5 network types and 13 frequency bands included in this handset allow you to connect to networks around the globe. Meizu MX4 Pro supports both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE out of the box which makes it compatible with most GSM networks out there. Support for download speed of over 150Mbps guarantees a great internet experience, as long as your network can handle it and very few can these days. Voiceprint Identification can also come in handy. Audience eS704 audio chip makes it possible for the user to call up and awake the MX4 Pro via voice commands. You say a specific keyword and the device awakens for you to use it and activates voice assistant. Voiceprint learns from your usage habits and gets more useful the more you use it, it adapts your voice. You can unlock the screen, dial phone number and get weather reports via voice commands, for example of course, and you can do all that if your hands are dirty without the need to touch the phone. We’ve already seen features like this with Moto X, for example, though this is Meizu’s take on it and a somewhat different implementation.

Meizu has included a 3350mAh battery in this device which should provide more than enough battery life to get you through the day. Meizu said that it worked closely with Sony, Samsung and ATL in order to produce the best possible battery and squeeze the most out of it during your usage. This battery, coupled with the 2K display’s battery saving technology, offers a day and a half usage even on 4G LTE according to Meizu. We’ll test that theory of course, but it sounds good thus far. Last, but not least, let’s talk about the camera sensors on this handset. 2 cameras are present, 20.7-megapixel IMX220 sensor from Sony on the back and a 5-megapixel OV5693 sensor by OmniVision on the front of this handset. The camera on the back takes only 0.3 seconds to focus in order to get you the best possible images as soon as possible. Front facing camera sports F/2.2 aperture and comes with Face AE technology in order to offer great performance in all light conditions, at least according to Meizu. Pixel size of 1.4μm sounds promising as well.

That’s it. Meizu MX4 Pro is truly a great offering by this Chinese manufacturer. If you’d like to see the full spec sheet of this handset, check out our specs article which is linked above.
