Huawei has announced the original Ascend P7 back in May and released it for sale in June. Soon after that leaks and rumors started regarding the sapphire version of the device and Huawei didn’t exactly keep it a secret for long, Huawei’s CEO announced it ahead of time. This Chinese manufacturer went official and announced the device at IFA back in September. Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Collector’s Edition is finally available for purchase. You get a Huawei Ascend P7 with a Sapphire display, a noise-cancelling headphones, 4800mAh external battery and a protective sleeve for the device for 4,688 Yuan ($766) which is a lot more expensive than the original Ascend P7’s 2,588 Yuan ($423) price. This special edition of Huawei P7 is available for purchase in China.
Other than the sapphire glass screen and additional goodies, this is the good old Huawei Ascend P7 we all know by now. The handset features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 2GB of RAM for your multitasking needs and 16GB of internals storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 64GB). Ascend P7 is powered by Huawei’s very own HiSilicon Kirin 910T quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz which comes along with Mali-450MP4 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of this device, you’ll find a 13-megapixel camera which is flanked by an LED flash while there’s a 8-megapixel snapper located on the front of this device. Huawei Ascend P7 ships with a 2500mAh non-removable battery and Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top of it. This is a 4G LTE capable device and it sports the usual array of sensors and what not.
It seems a bit weird to me that Huawei decided to wait so long to release something like this. I believe that every consumers who wanted to get an Ascend P7 device already did that and even those who haven’t would rather spends 2,588 Yuan on the original version that this sapphire version which quite frankly doesn’t bring all that much to the table, especially considering the much higher price point which the company is asking for the device. That being said, if you really need to have a sapphire screen on your device and / or want the added security that material offers, go for it.
