Meizu’s leadership is getting all sorts of interesting questions lately. Meizu MX4 Pro got launched a couple of days ago and Meizu decided to include Samsung’s Exynos 5430 octa-core chip, which is a rather capable performer, but Meizu couldn’t dodge some interesting questions following that choice. A lot of journalists were wondering why Meizu chose the Exynos SoC in the end and the majority of them asked why Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip wasn’t included. Meizu’s founder, Jack Wong, decided to comment on that. He said that Samsung’s Exynos offering was more suitable for the device itself, mentioning better multimedia performance capabilities of that processor as well as power-saving possibilities which that chip comes with. He also said that there could be issues regarding certain patents when it comes to integrating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip in the device itself.
This Chinese smartphone manufacturer will quite probably seek a way to penetrate other markets in the near future and they might opt for Qualcomm’s chips then. Snapdragon SoC’s are basically the synonym of great performance these days and Meizu might be persuaded to use these processors eventually. Anyhow, talking about Meizu MX4 Pro, this handset features a 5.5-inch 2K (2560 x 1536) along with 3GB of RAM and 16, 32 or 64GB of internal storage, depending on which model you decide to purchase. Samsung’s Exynos 5430 octa-core processor is powering this beast on and it comes with Mali-T628 MP6 GPU for graphics processing. 20.7-megapixel camera by Sony is located on the back of the device while there’s a 5-megapixel sensor by OmniVision available up front for your video calls, selfies and what not. The handset ships with a non-removable 3350mAh battery and comes with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed with Meizu’s Flyme OS on top of it. The handset sports similar build to the original MX4, except it’s bigger and it has a fingerprint scanner below the display. MX4 Pro is now available for pre-order in China and will go on sale on December 6th, no word on international availability just yet.
Meizu MX4 sports MediaTek’s CPU, while Meizu opted for an Exynos chip in the recently announced MX4 Pro. Do you think Meizu will opt for a Snapdragon SoC in the future, perhaps when they decide to expand their business outside of China?
