The Motorola Moto E was announced in May 2014 and was eventually sold on a Global scale. It is Motorola’s least expensive smartphone to date – the Moto X is their flagship model, followed by the Moto G and finally the Moto E at the bottom of the pecking order. It pushed the boundaries of what could be done with decent hardware and software at a very low price – it was a phone for the masses. The Moto E ran Android 4.4.4 KitKat right out-of-the-box and sports a good-sized 4.3-inch display, and for only $130, the Moto E was a steal as a first-time smartphone.
The Moto E was running on Canadian carriers between $179 to $199, so with Mobilicity offering it up for only $149.99 outright, you can get yourself a decent phone for a decent price. They also are letting the Moto G go for $199.99 and even the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is $50 cheaper than other carriers at $649.99. There is nothing like a good sale before the holidays and if Mobilicity does not find a buyer by its December 1 deadline, we could see a real fire sale going down. As a reminder; Mobilicity is struggling to keep away its creditors and is under court protection until December 1 – one of its many extended deadlines. However, if they can show the courts that they are able to continue to pay their bills and that they have interested investors, the courts may give them yet another reprieve and extend their deadline once again.
The remaining phones Mobilicity is offering are not the newest or latest and greatest devices…but a bargain none-the-less. The Moto G and Moto E were just released this year and while the Galaxy Note 3 is last year’s model, it is still a very good device and still used by millions – yours truly as well.
The Moto E comes with a 4.3-inch qHD display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and 256 pixels-per-inch that is covered by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual-core clocked at 1.2GHz and an Adreno 302 GPU. It is packing 1GB of RAM and only 4GB of internal storage, although that is expandable via a microSD card up to an additional 32GB. For taking pictures, it has a 5MP main camera with no flash and no front-facing camera (FFC). It is powered by a non-removable 1980mAh battery, supports 2G and 3G networks (no 4G LTE here), but comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and GPS.
