In the last few years, we have seen attempts from Samsung and Sony to build element proof smartphones. Even their flagships are now dust and water proof. The fact is people are clumsy. We drop the phones on the floor or in the water and the manufacturers want to minimize the risks of damaging the precious smartphone. None of this smartphones come even close to the new Sonim XP7. This smartphone is not only IP (Ingress Protection) certified, it is built for outdoor use in the hardest condition you can imagine. The phone runs almost completely stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat with very limited bloatware pre-installed.
Sonim XP7 is a virtually indestructible smartphone with some great specs you wouldn’t expect from such phone. It has LTE connectivity, Snapdragon 400 chipset, 4” 800 x 480 pixels screen protected by Gorilla Glass 2 glass equipped with glove touch and excellent outdoor readability. On the back, you’ll find 8 MP auto focus camera and the front features 1 MP fixed focus camera. The phone is protected by a rubber body so when the phone is thrown down it actually bounces back. The battery is simply outstanding. It holds 4800 mAh, which is nearly twice the size of Samsung Galaxy S5. It lasts up to 1000 hours in standby and up to 40 hours of talk time. The speaker produces 103 dB so the user will have no problem hearing the interlocutor even in a noisy environment. Sonim XP7 extreme has a shock and impact resistance above military standards. It is completely dirt, sand and mud proof and survives salt water submersion up to 6.5 feet.
Sonim X7 engineers are so convinced the phone is indestructible, they are offering a three-year warranty which includes accidental breakage. The company is currently raising funds on IndieGoGo. There is also an option to order the smartphone right there. It costs $579 and with the phone you also get a Sonim Bluetooth Headset and $200 trade-in on 2016 Sonim phone.
