There are many users that are very brand loyal…the ones that are often referred to as fanboys, although there must be fangirls as well…Samsung, Nexus and Sony come to mind. Sony fans are intensely loyal and enjoy the quality that a Sony device can offer and this is especially true with their SmartWatches. Many people do not realize that Sony has been making smartwatches, long before they became popular – using their own version of Android with a rather awkward setup and few apps, although the device itself was very nice looking.
The newest rendition – Sony SmartWatch 3 – smartly jumped onboard the Android Wear revolution and that should make it more attractive to a larger crowd of potential buyers. With Android Wear, you can hook up to ANY Android smartphone running Android 4.3 or higher. Sony has included a GPS in its SmartWatch 3, which means that you can walk or run without taking your phone with you and it will keep track of your distance. With the 4GB of internal storage, you can listen to music as you run using a Bluetooth headset. For a while, the U.S. buyers were only able to get it at a Verizon store, but then Sony opened it up for sale in the Google Play Store…in the U.S. But what about Canada Sony lovers…how long were they going to have to wait…wait no longer, the first Android Wear smartwatch with built-in GPS to hit Canada is now available in their Google Play Store. The Sony SmartWatch 3 will sell for $279.99 CAD and ships in 2-3 days.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 comes with a 1.6-inch 320 x 320 pixel TFT LCD display. It has a Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 512MB RAM and 4GB of storage. It also has Bluetooth 4.1 for connectivity and for power it has a 420mAh battery and should give you some of the best battery life of a smartwatch. Sony was wise to bring over its smartphone waterproofing to its SmartWatch 3 – it is certified IP68 for dust and water so you can have it submerged in water at 1m in depth for up to 30 minutes…so keep it on while you swim or shower – no problem. Another nice feature are the interchangeable bands – wear a different color each day thanks to a unique clasp mechanism. Sony may decide to come out with a necklace or other way to carry your SmartWatch 3.
