Google has released a new version of company’s Android OS alongside some new hardware last month. Android 5.0 Lollipop has been the main topic in the Android world ever since. Many manufacturers have already released their Lollipop plans, in other words specifically said which devices will be receiving the update. The Xiaomi Mi4 is Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone at the moment, it’s a great device. Even though we haven’t heard much from Xiaomi as far as Lollipop update roadmap goes, Mi4 is certain to get the update, but Xiaomi is not particularly fast as far as stuff like that goes, considering their MIUI skin on top of company’s devices of course. Anyhow, the Xiaomi Mi3 is also still a quite powerful device, with its Snapdragon 800 and 2GB of RAM it’s more than a probable contender to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop as well. What nobody expected though, is for Xiaomi’s Mi2 to receive the update and according to the latest information, it might end up getting the update after all.
Chinese MIUI developer @akiba posted some interesting screenshots on his Weibo page. He shared some images of a Xiaomi Mi2 running Android 5.0 Lollipop. He was unable to share a release date with us considering there are still a lot of bugs left to squash, but this is great news for those of you who are still rockin’ the Xiaomi Mi2. I’m a bit surprised because this phone has launched in November 2012 and Xiaomi has released 2 flagships after it, but the Xiaomi Mi2 is still a rather powerful device. A Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of RAM should be plenty enough to run Android 5.0 Lollipop, that is in Nexus 4 territory and we all know by now that Nexus 4 is getting the Lollipop update. The Xiaomi Mi2 launched with a 4.3-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS LCD display, 16 or 32GB of internal storage and comes with 8 and 2-megapixel cameras.
Does anyone out there still own the Xiaomi Mi2? Xiaomi has to work a bit faster when it comes to pushing updates to their devices, I know it’s hard to do that considering MIUI OS, but still. Other than that, these are great news for all Mi2 owners.
