We don’t hear much from Asus lately, at least not as far as smartphones go. The company has a solid ZenFone line of smartphones (check out our ZenPhone 4 and ZenPhone 5 reviews if you’d like) which is doing fairly well in China and the company itself is doing well in general, so no worries there. It seems like Asus plans to release yet another smartphone in China though. Asus X002 is the device in question and it got certified by TENAA (China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center) and is expected to launch in China fairly soon. Regarding its specification, Asus X002 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS LCD display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB).
This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6732 quad-core chip clocked at 1.5GHz which ships with Mali-T760 GPU for graphics processing. If we take a look at the back of this device, we’ll find an 8-megapixel AF shooter flanked by an LED flash, while there’s a 5-megapixel snapper located on the front side of this handset. Asus X002 ships with a 2,500mAh battery, measures 146 x 73 x 9.9mm and weighs 140 grams. This is a single-SIM handset by the way, no dual-SIM support. Moving on, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G connectivity and the usual array of sensors are also included here.
As you can see, this is definitely not an overly impressive device. Asus X002 is yet another mid-range offering by Asus which might sell relatively well if Asus manages to pick the right price for it. As I already mentioned, the device is expected to launch soon, but we still don’t have any information when it comes to its price, but we’ll let you know as soon as we get some additional info regarding that. Either way you spin it, this handset will have a tough job of competing with other devices in an evergrowing Chinese smartphone market. We all know China is home to many, many devices, many of which are extremely affordable. We’re talking about a country where flagship handsets usually have really low prices, at least when it comes to certain manufacturers, but handsets like this one can always sell relatively well, I guess, at least that was the case thus far.
