A new year means new devices and Sony is one of the OEMs we generally see new things from early on. If things follow suit in 2015 like they did in 2014, we’ll likely be seeing some new device reveals come up at CES next week, and the upcoming Sony Xperia E4 could be one of those devices. The Xperia E4 is already a reality at this point, but things are becoming more official now as the Sony Xperia E4 appears to have been passed through the FCC. All new phones here in the U.S. have to pass through and receive certification from the FCC before making their way to final production and launch, and with the Xperia E4 documentation landing on the FCC’s desk, a launch can’t be too far away.
The rumored 5-inch qHD device is said to have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space, as well as a microSD card slot for expandable storage if you need more for apps or games. It’s also rumored to be powered by the Mediatek MT6582 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz complete with a Mali-400 MP4 GPU for graphics processing. On the camera side of things the Xperia E4 should be coming with a 5MP rear facing camera and a 1.9MP front facing camera, and according to the past photo leaks the Xperia E4 will have some pretty slim bezels for a budget focused device.
The FCC documentation shows that the Xperia E4 will come in a few different models, one with a single SIM slot, one with a dual SIM slot and with a dual SIM slot and DTV support. The documents also show the dimensions of the device as well as placement of things like the WLAN radio and the camera on the back which will sit directly in the middle at the top of the device, but there isn’t really anything else in the way of official specs or what this device will cost. The official launch date is still not known yet, but we’d wager it launches within the first quarter of 2015 and since it’s a budget/entry-level phone it should come in under a few hundred bucks.
