HTC might not have been very successful with its implementation of dual rear cameras on the One M8, but Chinese companies aren’t holding themselves from taking a shy at the yet-to-be-proven tech. We reported some days back that Huawei’s next, the Honor 6 Plus, would come with a dual camera setup akin to the M8. However, unlike HTC’s rendition, the duo of sensors is aligned horizontally and not vertically, on the Honor 6 Plus. I’m not completely sure about how this is going to be better, but the new setup might certainly help in situations where you previously found your fingers covering the top sensor of the M8’s Duo Camera arrangement.
What we know for sure is that the dual rear cameras will let you re-focus on certain sections of the image after you’ve taken a picture. Besides the M8, a few other single-sensor phones including the Xiaomi Mi4 exhibit the re-focus effect. We managed to get our hands on some pictures straight from the dual camera setup of the Honor 6 Plus for you to have a look (bottom of the post). Besides re-focus, the pictures seem to have a what shutterbugs call a ’tilt-shift’ effect, which give the portrait a miniature look and feel.
The Honor 6 Plus is expected to carry Huawei’s homebrew octa-core Kirin 925 SoC based on the big.LITTLE architecture, along with 3GB of RAM. Now that sounds like a rather high-end device, and from what we’re hearing, Huawei will also charge a price that’s sort of on the higher-end of the spectrum, US$540. While we certainly like the idea of an up and coming smartphone maker trying out new technology, we aren’t very certain about how well Huawei will be able to pull off the rather expensive looking price tag. The fact is, Huawei still isn’t a household name in the US and other European markets, where it would want the Honor 6 Plus to do well.
By the way, we also caught a glimpse of a flyer that had 12/16 printed on it… are we in for a Honor 6 Plus launch in two weeks’ time?
