Another week, another HTC One rumor and this one is less encouraging for those of us eagerly awaiting the announcement of the next version, believed to be given the codename Hima. According to Upleaks Tweet, the One M8 successor device will be missing the big shows early in 2015 and instead receive its own event some time in early March. This is after the CES, Consumer Electronics Show, held at Las Vegas, Nevada, from the 6 to the 9 January, and after MWC, Mobile World Congress, held between the 2 to the 5 March in Barcelona, Spain. On the one hand it’s good that HTC are not rushing the One to get it ready for a show but on the other, it’s a little disappointing as March seems like many months away!
As for the follow up device to the HTC One (M8), we’ve seen several rumors and purported leaks for the Hima. The most realistic set of expected specifications has the device based around the new 64-bit dual / quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which combines a high performance quad core processor with a high efficiency quad core unit, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 2,800 mAh battery and what appears to be a Sony 20.7 MP main camera unit combined with a 13 MP front facing camera. It’s likely that the screen will be slightly bigger, perhaps weighing in at the 5.2-inch point, but the device will be around the same size thanks to HTC modifying its BoomSound speakers by reducing the size. We don’t know if they’ll use a 1080p resolution panel or make the jump to QHD (2,560 by 1,440 pixel) resolution. In the past, HTC have debuted a new version of their custom interface, Sense, with a new flagship model so we are expecting the next One to introduce HTC Sense 7, likely sitting on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop (unless Google have seen fit to introduce 5.1 by March?). We also believe the Hima will be sold in grey, silver and gold colors and in this respect it’s similar to the HTC One M8. We may also see bolder colors introduced later in the year such as red and blue.
We can also expect the Hima to be joined by a smaller cousin, just as the original One (the M7) was joined by the One Mini, and the M8 has a smaller cousin, the One Mini 2. As for the name of the device, HTC introduce the “One” brand back in 2012 and there are some murmurs that the brand could do with a refresh; perhaps we’ll see a new name as well as device in March? We will let you know as soon as we know ourselves!
