Samsung, Samsung, Samsung. Sometimes, it seems like the South Korean tech giant just simply cannot stop releasing smartphones. In the last few months, we have already seen a number of devices hit the market including the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge, Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy Grand Prime, just to name a few. Well, another device which begun being reported last month and rumored to be on the way, was the Samsung Galaxy J1.
Even though, the device is still only at the speculation stage there are a couple of interesting things to note about this one. Firstly, this is rumored to be the first in a new line of budget phones from the tech company. Secondly, in a side-step away from traditionally naming devices with specific names, it seems Samsung are intent on naming devices based on a range, similar to how the Galaxy S range runs. As mentioned, we have already seen the A range consisting of the A3, A5 and soon to be A7. Not forgetting, we have also seen the E range. The newest addition, the Galaxy J1 is believed to be the first, in a line of J range budget devices that will be available going forward.
In terms of what is on offer, the Galaxy J1 reportedly comes with a 4.3″ WVGA display. Inside the J1 will come loaded with 1GB RAM and powered by a 64-bit quad-core Marvell PXA1908 processor (clocking at 1.2GHz). In terms of cameras, the J1 will come with a 5MP rear shooter along with a 2MP front facing option. Additional features worth mentioning include 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 1,850mAh battery, and running on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Interestingly, the J1 is rumored to be available in four variants (single-SIM 3G, dual-SIM 3G, single-SIM LTE and dual-SIM LTE) and the 3G variants will come with a reduced VGA front facing camera compared to the LTE version.
Well, this was all the news we already knew about. However, today and thanks to the folks over at Sammobile (source link below) we get our first look at the new Samsung Galaxy J1. Now, on initial inspection there is not too much to comment on in terms of how the device looks. It looks quite similar to a number of previous Samsung devices (and a few others to be honest). As such, a new look won’t be the big selling point here but instead the addition of the 64-bit processor. If you are thinking about getting one then it is expected that the J1 will be officially announced this month (and possibly as early as January 14th).
