Motorola had a good year in 2014. They launched the Moto 360 which quickly became a fan favourite, not to mention refreshed versions of their Moto devices. Of course, also not forgetting that they were the guys and girls behind the latest Google Nexus device, the Google Nexus 6. The other big news from 2014 (from Motorola’s perspective) was their acquisition by Lenovo. With Lenovo being a Chinese company, it did feel this would be the perfect opportunity for Motorola to re-enter the Chinese smartphone market and it looks like that is exactly what is happening.
Motorola announced via a post on their blog (source link below) today that they are indeed returning to China and bringing with them three familiar devices. The first device making its journey to China will be the fan favourite, the Moto X which will be available in early February. Following on from the Moto X, two more devices will be making landing and both are due to land after Spring Festival (basically late February, early March). The first of these is the other popular Moto device, the Moto G. The second device to land after Spring Festival is probably the most interesting of the announcements, as it is called the ‘Moto X Pro’. Now, that name won’t sound too familiar but the device certainly will as this is basically the Google Nexus 6 but without any of the Nexus branding. If you are in any doubt, then the Moto X Pro comes with a 6″ Quad HD display Inside, the Moto X Pro comes with a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and a 3220 mAh battery as well as 13MP camera with optical image stabilization. Familiar, right?
The blog post actually goes on to highlight how importantly Motorola views the Chinese smartphone market by firstly acknowledging its place as “one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets”. This is later followed up by Motorola stating “We’re eager to build a direct relationship with Chinese consumers and empower them by bringing the mobile Internet to millions of people“. So there you go. If you are in China and wanted a Nexus 6 then you will soon be able to pick one up, albeit without the Nexus branding.
