Back when Samsung launched the original Galaxy Alpha, we knew that the company wasn’t going to stop at just one device; this is Samsung after all. Unsurprisingly, we got a number of new devices in the form of the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7. While the A7 is still making its way to market, the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 are available in India and they’ll soon be available in the UK. The metallic devices will be available to purchase on the high street as well as online starting February 12th, which is roughly a fortnight away.
It’s understandable that people might not know why the Galaxy A3 and A5 even exist at this point, but all you really need to know is that these devices are the Samsung Galaxy experience in a premium look and feel. With metal builds and an arguably much classier design, the Galaxy A3 and A5 are good-looking devices. Under-the-hood though, things aren’t quite as exciting, with both devices sporting a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 CPU at 1.2 Ghz. The Galaxy A3 is the smaller of the pair, with a 4.5-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED display and 1.5GB of RAM with the Galaxy A5 sporting a 5.0-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display and 2GB of RAM. Both devices feature 8GB of expandable storage (up to 64GB each) and they’re both running Android 4.4.2 KitKat, with a Lollipop update already in the works.
These are devices designed for those looking for a nice phone, a good-looking phone that also does all the surfing and taking pictures they want. As such, both are equipped with front-facing cameras at 5-megapixels, with the Galaxy A3 getting an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter and the Galaxy A5 a 13-megapixel camera. The specs aren’t exactly stellar here, and they’re not designed to be. While there’s no word on pricing just yet, these won’t be priced like your average Moto G or Galaxy S5 Mini; you’ll be paying extra for that metallic build and design. Both will be available in Pearl White and Midnight Black from networks like O2, EE and Vodafone as well as Carphone Warehouse
