Today, documents were released showing that an unnamed Sony smartphone has been officially certified in Japan. The regulatory committee known as the Radio Research Committee (RRA) has approved what might be the Sony Xperia Z4’s design, giving it the okay for release in the Japanese market. Though the released documents do not disclose the phone’s specifications, we know that it will definitely include support for the full spectrum of Japanese networks NTT DoCoMo, KDDi and SoftBank. The phone will support the latest features in wireless communications: VoLTE, Bluetooth Class 1, 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS.
The Xperia Z4 is expected to be the revamped version of Sony’s 2014 flagship model, the Sony Xperia Z3. The phone was praised for its great battery life and brilliant display, but the camera firmware and autofocus were thought to be somewhat lacking. Considering that Sony is a major producer of electronics which include the latest in camera technology, it is not too much to suppose that the Z3’s successor will show some improvement in the camera. After the release of the Z4, we will see whether and in what way Sony is able to deliver on its promise to deliver a better smartphone experience.
Previous leaks and rumors point to Sony’s trademark 5.2-inch triluminos display, a 16-Megapixel back camera, 2-Megapixel front camera, 32GB of memory, Qi Wireless charging, and a 2,800 mAh removable Li-Ion battery. It also purportedly makes use of the new Snapdragon 810 chipset, which promises the first 64-bit processing for Android and support for 4k video recording as well as a host of other features. It will run Google’s latest operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop. The phone, like its predecessor, also includes advanced dust and water resistance.
The Xperia Z4 is expected to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 smartphone upon release. Sources have speculated that the two phones will be officially revealed at the Mobile World Congress this March. The Xperia Z4 will allegedly be released in three versions: the Xperia Z4, the Xperia Z4 Compact, and the Xperia Z4 Ultra. Each phone will fit a different form factor and boast slightly different specs. Sony has yet to publicly announce a release date.
