Yesterday was a rough one for Motorola Canada when it comes to the new Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA updates for its Moto X 2104. Many WIND Mobile users had their phones bricked from the soak test upgrade and customers were calling and emailing WIND Mobile about the problem. After a period of he said, she said, Motorola issued a statement:
“Yesterday we began testing Android 5.0 Lollipop by pushing out a beta upgrade to a small number of WIND Moto X (2nd Gen.) users in Canada. Some of those users are reporting issues with the test upgrade and we are actively looking into the cause. We’re asking the owners that have been impacted to return their affected Moto X to a WIND store for a replacement. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this causes.”
All affected users who bring their bricked Moto X’s in for a free replacement – of course, all personal data was lost if it had not been backed up. At least the problem was finally resolved and WIND Mobile customers can move on.
TELUS is now sending out its rolling OTA update to its many Moto X 2014 users – but do not be afraid! Unlike the WIND Mobile disaster yesterday, the earlier TELUS soak test went without a hitch, so you can be sure that your update from 4.4.4 KitKat to 5.0.1 Lollipop should be a smooth and enjoyable experience. Because of the different carriers their Moto X is actually a different piece of hardware and a completely different software build.
Android 5.0 Lollipop ushers in a new era with Google’s new interface design, dubbed, ‘Material Design.’ It builds heavily off what Google has done with Google Now, using the ‘card’ metaphor throughout the Lollipop interface. These cards are various sizes and colors…bright, eye-catching colors and shadows that give a certain depth to the interface. Apps can respond to touch and there is different shadow and ripple effects, making the interface look as though the user is manipulating it. There are dozens of new features and over 5,000 new APIs for developers to use, better control over the battery, hooks to work with Android Wear and cross-platform compatibility with Chrome OS devices.
Please hook up with us on our Google+ Page and let us know if you have received your OTA Update and how smoothly everything went during your upgrade and if you are enjoying the new 5.0.1 Lollipop…as always, we would love to hear from you.
