ASUS has quickly gone from a name known for distributing just Android tablets to a decent name where Android smartphones are concerned. ASUS’ offerings are mostly budget offerings, aimed at those in emerging markets that might not be able to afford devices from Samsung or Sony. Competing with the likes of Motorola’s Moto E and Moto G, their ZenFone line has gained some considerable competition over the last year or so, and while we wait for the ZenFone 2 to hit shelves, it looks like ASUS isn’t finished with the original lineup. Having recently launched in Malaysia, the ZenFone C is now up for sale in India.
You might be wondering what makes the ZenFone C so special, and where it sits in the current ZenFone line. Well, we’re not sure what the ‘c’ stands for here, but the 4.5-inch device sits somewhere in between the ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 5. It’s not priced like a ZenFone 5, but it’s not quite as basic as a ZenFone 4, either, It’s powered by an Intel Atom Z2520 at 1.2 Ghz and there’s 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage to go along with it. Elsewhere, there’s a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 0.2-megapixel shooter at the front. For RS 5,999 this isn’t too bad a device, especially considering ASUS genuinely makes software that builds on top of what Android has to offer, rather than just messing with Android for the sake of it.
The ASUS ZenFone C is available to order right now at FlipKart and it’s going for a pretty decent rate as of writing. Considering these have proven somewhat popular throughout India, it’s no surprise that ASUS bought the ZenFone C to the region. What we’re all waiting for however, is the ZenFone C, which appears to offer some of the best value available yet. We managed to get hands-on during CES 2015, which you can take a look at here.
