OnePlus has been all over the news in the last couple of months. The relationship between OnePlus and Cyanogen has become really unstable, and everything culminated when Cyanogen signed an India exclusivity agreement with Micromax’s Yu company. The OnePlus One’s successor definitely won’t be running Cyanogen OS, but OnePlus’ very own ROM, OxygenOS, which already got announced by the company. That being said, we have some new OnePlus information to share with you today.
Carl Pei, OnePlus co-founder and Director of Global, has announced that the company will open a Research and Development (R&D) center in Europe later this year. He did not release any additional information regarding this, unfortunately. Mr. Pei did not say where OnePlus plans to open up this R&D center, so we can only guess at this point, and I’m not exactly sure where to begin to be quite honest, they could basically open this up anywhere in Europe. OnePlus’ CEO has also sent out a message to the recently fired Sony employees to send their resumes to OnePlus, they’ll be needing some workers in this R&D center after all, so why not grab Sony’s ex-employees, right? Anyhow, this is great news in my humble opinion.
This R&D center could play a big part in OnePlus’ future products and I do believe this is a sign that OnePlus means business. Many people have doubted OnePlus in the past, but it seems like this company is here to stay, and those are great news indeed. The OnePlus One is a great, really affordable handset (considering what it offers), and as long as OnePlus doesn’t mess up everything with this new OxygenOS, I believe the OnePlus Two (or whatever they decide to call it) could be a huge success. I do hope they’ll ditch the invite-only system though, or else they’ll make a ton of people angry all over again. I do believe that Oppo will announce more than one handset this year though, that’s just a hunch on my part though, but let’s wait and see what Oppo has to say, this is definitely a good start of this year for this China-based company.
