About a month ago we saw the sequel to the first ruggedized phone by No. 1, an upstart Chinese company that made some big rounds in 2014 with its clones of popular brands of phones. No. 1’s first rugged device was a rather inexpensive piece, much like the rest of its device portfolio, and featured some incredible resistance to basically any element or scenario you could throw at it. The follow up to that phone was the No.1 X-Men X2, a larger phone with a faster processor and a few more bells and whistles than its little brother. If you were to hold both phones in each hand the first thing you would likely notice is the size difference.
The X-Men X2 features a larger 5.5-inch 720p screen compared to its 5-inch brother the X1. It’s also a bit thinner at 14mm compared to 15mm of the X1. Besides the size difference you’re looking at full 4G LTE connectivity, something most rugged smartphones could only dream of, including the original X-Men X1. This includes 3G GSM bands 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz, 3G WCDMA 850, 900, 1900, 2100MHz and 4G FDD-LTE 800, 1800, 2100, 2600MHz. This is powered by a brand new quad-core Snapdragon 410, the newest 64-bit chipset by famous chipset maker Qualcomm. This is an upgrade over the quad-core MediaTek MT6582 found in the original X-Men X1, and provides a good horsepower update that you’ll need when running the latest apps and games. 1GB of RAM powers the phone, and while that doesn’t sound like a lot remember that it’s only a 720p screen and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat, which means this is going to be plenty of RAM for every day use without seeing constant redraws.
As far as durability is concerned we’re not sure whether or not it can be run over by a car and survive as the original one could, but given that it features all the resistance of the original there’s no reason to think you wouldn’t be able to do that. That resistance list is quite a laundry list to go through and includes not only water and dust-proof features via IP68 certification, but also dust-proof, freeze-proof, shock-proof, pressure-proof and scratch-proof. Last but not least is the battery, which is a rather large 4,500mAh and should get you through a few day’s usage with no problem. The X2 is retailing at $204.99, which is about $20 or so more than the original X1, but given the big feature bump we can understand the bump in pricing.
