I don’t know if you recall, but even before the Meizu M1 got launched in China, there were rumors that this handset will eventually get released in 3 different OS variants. The basic, Flyme, variant is already available, which means the Yun OS and Ubuntu-powered Meizu M1 handsets are still expected to hit the market, if the report is to believed that is. This seems perfectly feasible though, why? Well, Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu) and Meizu have signed an agreement a while back and it was confirmed that the Ubuntu-powered Meizu handset will hit the market sooner or later. Moreover, Alibaba, the company behind YunOS, invested $590 million in Meizu quite recently and got a minority stake in that China-based company. It seems we’ll see both the Ubuntu and YunOS-powered Meizu handset hit the market soon.
Speaking of which, the YunOS-powered Meizu M1 just got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC). There’s no difference in this handset’s specifications, this is the same Meizu M1 that got released in China last month, the only different is the software. This handset will quite probably hit the market within a month, but I’m guessing that will happen soon. Alibaba partnership could really boost Meizu in the long run, because the company has promised that it will provide Meizu with “resources and support in the field of e-commerce, mobile internet, mobile operating system and data analysis”. This is a big deal for Meizu because Alibaba is the biggest e-commerce company in China, and the biggest one in the world if we look at the sheer merchandise volume.
Anyhow, let’s take a look at what specifications will this device sport, shall we. Meizu M1 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 768) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB). This thing is powered by MediaTek’s MT6732 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and it ships with a 2,610mAh battery on the inside. 13-megapixel snapper is located on the back of this thing along with an LED flash, and a 5-megapixel shooter is available up front, in case you want to take a selfie or two. The device will also offer 4G LTE connectivity, and I believe it will also be available in a range of color options, just like the original Meizu M1.
