Meizu did a great job last year, the company managed to release some compelling and rather affordable devices last year. They managed to grow as a company, are selling more and more smartphones and are having big plans for the future. This China-based company has announced the mid-range, extremely affordable M1 handset back in January. This device cost around $100 in China, and offers really solid spec sheet for that amount of money. That being said, the Meizu M1 runs company’s very own Android-based Flyme OS out of the box, but it was rumored that they will release the YunOS-powered version as well.
That handset was certified and therefore confirmed a while back, and in the meantime Alibaba (the company behind YunOS) invested $590 million in Meizu, and acquired a small stake in this Chinese smartphone manufacturer. This investment will surely help Meizu expand their business and do even better this year. The aforementioned YunOS-powered handset is now available for pre-order in China, and costs the same as the original version, 699 Yuan ($112). The device is available for pre-order from Tmall in China, and will be available for purchase on March 2nd. As a side note, Meizu has recently confirmed that the Ubuntu-powered MX4 handset will be unveiled at MWC in Barcelona soon, but the question remains whether the company intends to release the Ubuntu-powered M1 or not. Either way, we’ll get more information during MWC.
The Meizu M1 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 768) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB). This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6732 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and it ships with a 2,610mAh battery on the inside. 13-megapixel snapper is located on the back of this thing along with an LED flash, and a 5-megapixel shooter is available up front for your selfie and video call needs. The device will also offer 4G LTE connectivity, and the YunOS variant will also be available in a range of colors, just like the original Meizu M1. There you have it, let us know if you intend to get a copy of this handset.
