Everybody agrees that the new Huawei Watch is one of the nicest looking smartwatches to hit the market – but the real talk has been about the cost. After seeing the Apple Watch pricing, the Huawei Watch may be a little easier to swallow, although initial reports were that it may cost as much as $1000. Earlier today, our source reported that a German retailer (Billiger) put out an ad with listings as ‘low’ as €349 or $370 USD for the silver and black variants and €399 or $424 USD for the gold version…which could actually translate to $349 and $399 figures for the US.
The €349 translates to $468 CAD… sorry, Canada, but your exchange rate is not in your favor, so it will be interesting to see if Huawei adjusts the prices for Canada. As it stands, that would be higher than the base cost of the new Apple Watch… still a far cry from the $1000 rumored price.
The Huawei Watch is powered by Android Wear on the inside and covered by a stainless steel case and a sapphire crystal on the outside. It is a bit clunky at 11.3mm thick and while some Huawei devices have a cheap feel or made of plastic, the Huawei Watch is the complete opposite – possibly one of the finest Android Wear wearables available. With Android Wear powering most of the new smartwatches, the design and materials is what helps differentiate them from one another.
The Huawei Watch spots a 1.4-inch AMOLED display with a 400 x 400 resolution and 286 pixels-per-inch (PPI). The Huawei Watch uses the more familiar round display, made popular by the Moto 360 – a strong departure from the Samsung, Sony and first LG smartwatches. The internal specs are also very vanilla – powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage and connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth 4.1. It also has various sensors such as an accelerometer, barometer and heart rate monitor. It comes with only a 300mAh battery, although Huawei claims it will last one and half to two days on a single charge.
