We realize that most eyes were focus on Samsung at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), but the truth of the matter is that many new products were unveiled – such as a bevy of new tablets. We decided to talk a little about the many brands and models of tablets presented to us at MWC, in no particular order.
What had to be the hit of the show was the new Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet measuring at only 6.1mm thick it is the thinnest Android tablet. It sports a 10-inch QHD display, uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 64-bit 810 octa-core processor with 32GB of internal storage, a great 8MP main camera and even a 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) for selfies or a terrific video chatting experience. A 6000mAh battery, promising up to 17 hours of usage on a single charge, powers it. It is IP68 certified waterproof and supports LTE.
Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70 is an affordable Android slate – a 10.1 IPS LCD display with 1080p resolution. The brain is a 64-bit MediaTek quad-core with 2GB of RAM and a large 7200mAh battery. It is the first Android tablet to feature Dolby ATMOS 3D cinema-style sound – nice when you watch a video or movie. It will be running Android 4.4 KitKat, but promises to be updated to 5.0 Lollipop in June. The slate is 8.9mm thick, weighs 509 grams, and comes in Pearl White and Midnight Blue.
The Lenovo TAB 2 A8 sports a 8-inch 720p IPS display with a 64-bit MediaTek 8161 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable via a microSD card. It features a 4200mAh battery, dual-SIM, GSM voice and 4G LTE data – giving you the option to make phone calls using your tablet. It also uses Dolby’s ATMOS 3D sound, runs Android 5.0 out-of-the-box and comes in Pearl White, Ebony, Midnight Blue and Neon Pink.
The Huawei MediaPad X2 sports a 7-inch LPTS display with a resolution of 1200 x 1920 – it has very small bezels, which allows the display to cover 80-percent of the front. It uses the 64-bit Kirin 930 octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz and a choice of 2GB of RAM with 16GB storage or 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage. It has a huge (for a tablet) 13MP main camera with its own dedicated ISP chip and has a 5MP FFC for selfies and video chats. It is a dual-SIM device and even has LTE Cat-6 connectivity.
Alcatel showed two new low-end tablets – the OneTouch PIXI 3…a 7-inch display with a 1.1GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a 2MP camera – and the OneTouch PIXI 3…8-inch display, a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 2MP camera.
