Samsung Delayed MWC 'Orbis' Smartwatch Launch To Focus On Delivering A "More Perfect" Smartwatch

Samsung really hit MWC running yesterday with their Samsung Unpacked event. Many eyes were watching Samsung’s moves to see how they were coping with the increased pressure coming from the new risers like Xiaomi and the old foes like Apple. As such, many wanted to know if the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S6 would bounce back, from what was largely thought of as a let-down device in last year’s Samsung Galaxy S5. However, the Galaxy S6 was not the only device on offer yesterday. Samsung also announced the Edge version of the S6 in the form of the Galaxy S6 Edge, as well as also announcing a new version of the Gear VR.

That said and now that the dust is settling, one device which seemed to have been missing from Samsung’s event was a smartwatch or wearable. It is no secret, Samsung likes to release a whole bunch of smartphones every year, and likewise, it was being understood that they quite liked releasing wearables too. They have already in the last 18 months released a significant number of trackers, watches and the likes. Not to mention, rumors were rife that the next generation Samsung smartwatch codenamed ‘Orbis’ was going to land at MWC. However, that was the case.

Well, it seems, there was a good reason for this. Samsung is reportedly delaying the launch of their next smartwatch as they want to ensure, when the device lands, it is worth it. At least, this is the information coming in from an interview given to WSJ (source link below) from Samsung Exec Vice President, Young-hee Lee. According to Lee, Samsung are well aware of how many devices they are releasing and are looking to make more quality over quantity “We’ve been introducing more devices than anybody else,” further adding “It’s time for us to pause“. Probably more revealing, is that Lee also was noted saying “We want a more perfect product‘. What exactly is meant by this, remains unclear at the moment. However, after the generally well-receiving of the Samsung Galaxy S6, we could be looking at an interesting new smartwatch coming from Samsung soon. What do you think? Are Samsung right to wait? Let us know.
