Have you been looking to get your hands on the new ASUS Zenfone 2 that was announced at CES in January? Well it’s finally available here in the US, and available on Amazon. Unfortunately, only the 2GB of RAM model is available, starting at $219.99. The ASUS Zenfone 2 was announced in another variant with 4GB of RAM, which is the model that most of us had our eyes on, as it is the first smartphone with 4GB of RAM.
On Amazon, the model is the ZE500CL. Which not only offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, but also a 5-inch 720p display instead of the 1080p display on the higher-end model. It does come unlocked and offers LTE connectivity. There’s also Android 5.0 Lollipop along with the Zen UI. There’s a 8MP camera on the back, and it’s powered by a dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor which is clocked at 1.6GHz. There’s also a microSD card slot, which ASUS says only supports up to 64GB of storage, strangely. So it looks like you won’t be able to use the newer 128GB and 200GB microSD cards from Sandisk. It appears that stock is limited of the ASUS Zenfone 2, so you’ll want to hurry up and pick one up before they’re gone.
Strangely, the white model is $219, while the black model is $229. That’ll likely change further down the road, but still interesting to see prices for different colors. At this point, we have no idea when the 4GB model is going to launch in the US, and if it’s going to launch in the US. But we have heard it’s going to be about $100 more. Even at $329, that’s not a bad price, considering you’re getting a 1080p display in that $100 increase as well.
The ASUS Zenfone 2 smartphone is only available in single SIM here in the US. Likely will be a dual-SIM in other parts of the world. The Zenfone 2 will support AT&T on most bands, and T-Mobile on only a few LTE bands. So if you’re alright with HSPA+ speeds, then it’s a pretty decent smartphone to buy. Hopefully ASUS will release a model that’s a bit more US friendly.
