Many Chinese smartphone manufacturers are currently attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, as pretty much every major smartphone OEM around the world. We’ve already covered a lot of smartphone launches, hands-ons and all other sorts of tech-related stuff from MWC, and now we bring you yet another smartphone launch, this time we’ll talk about Vivo, a China-based smartphone vendor you’ve all probably heard of already.
Vivo has announced the Vivo X5 Max+ handset at MWC. You might recall their Vivo X5 Max which was announced back in December, that handset was the thinnest smartphone in the world for a while, it is only 4.75mm thick. This time around Vivo has decided to release its brother of sorts, the X5 Max+, which sports a larger battery on the inside. Anyhow, let’s check out this device’s specs, shall we. The Vivo X5 Max+ features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Super AMOLED display along with 2GB of RAM for your multitasking needs and 16GB of in-built storage which you can expand via microSD card up to 128GB. MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit octa-core SoC clocked at 1.7GHz is powering on this handset, and a 2,300mAh battery ships with the device. Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with Vivo’s Funtouch 2.0 OS on top of it. 13-megapixel snapper can be found on the back of this device, and a 5-megapixel shooter is available up front. This handset also offers 4G LTE connectivity, just like the X5 Max.
Due to the larger battery on the inside, this device is a bit thicker than the X5 Max, it is 5.1mm thick, which is still really, really thin though. This is a welcomed upgrade from Vivo, considering that the original’s 2,000mAh was just not enough to get you through the day. These two handsets looks almost identical if you don’t look at them from the side though, different SoC and a bigger battery are more or less the only differentiating factors here. It is said that this device will keep the X5 Max pricing and that it will be available soon in China, it remains to be seen if Vivo intends to offer it in other markets though.
