Xiaomi is a very interesting company. This China-based smartphone manufacturer was founded back in 2010, and managed to sell 61 million devices last year, three times as much compared to a year before that. The company has huge plans for this year and intends to sell around 100 million handsets by the end of 2015, which is quite optimistic. They already announced a bunch of devices in the last couple of months, and Xiaomi intends to expand their business outside of China this year.
Speaking of which, Xiaomi said that they will open 100 stores in India this year in order showcase their devices to consumers. Interestingly enough, Xiaomi won’t be selling their devices in those stores, only online, as they did thus far. The company is currently selling their devices through Flipkart in India, but some reports claimed that they will open up shop in India later this year and sell the to consumers directly. Anyhow, these “service and experience stores” will be set up over 500 to 1,000 square feet. Xiaomi will launch these stores in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore in early April, said Manu Jain, Head of Xiaomi India. Xiaomi did not reveal all the details today, but we’ll hear from them soon enough, that’s for sure.
As a side note, Xiaomi has launched two ‘new’ devices in India today, the Redmi 2 handset and the MiPad tablet. These devices have been available in China for quite some time now, but the company re-launched them for Indian market today. The two devices will be available soon in India, and it seems like Xiaomi plans further expansions. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer already offers a significant number of their devices through Flipkart in India, so if you’re interested, visit either Xiaomi’s India website or Flipkart directly. That being said, let us know what you think here, do you think that Xiaomi will be able to sell as many devices this year? Do you own, or would you like to own a Xiaomi-branded device? Let us know what you think in the comments, we’d love to hear from you, as always.
