We had suspected an earlier launch of LG’s upcoming G4 flagship this year, and it’s all official now, the LG G4 will be announced during an event on April 28th. As is often the case with LG, they’ve released yet another teaser which doesn’t really tell us much, giving us close up looks at the device’s curves and such, but nothing concrete. Aside from the fact that the G4 is going to be a smartphone that can see it all. How it will be able to do that is through an f/1.8 aperture lens, as confirmed by the latest teaser from LG.
You might be wondering what aperture is. Aperture refers to the amount of light that is let in through the lens and makes its way to the camera’s sensor. The more light that comes in, the quicker you can take an image, and consequently you’ll end up with fewer blurry images. F-stops, as they’re known, are determined by a figure like the f/1.8 rating here and the lower the number, the more light that is let in through to the camera’s sensor. We’ve become accustomed to smartphone cameras featuring apertures of f/2.0 – f/2.2 for quite some time now, but the Galaxy S6 with its f/1.9 aperture and now the G4’s f/1.8 aperture appear to be taking smartphone cameras to new heights. Coupled with LG’s excellent OIS (optical image stabilisation) technology, and the G4 could be one of the fastest, and easiest to use cameras to hit the market this year.
Of course, there’s a lot more we need to know about the G4 before we call it a success, but judging on how good a camera the G3 featured last year, things are looking for the G4. As for the rest of the device, there are rumors the device will ship with a Snapdragon 808, a hexa-core CPU rather than the octa-core CPU in the Snapdragon 810. Rumor has it that the Snapdragon 810 runs just too hot to reach rated clock speeds for considerable lengths of time and that LG would rather have a stable performance with a hexa-core CPU than an inconsistent experience with an octa-core CPU. Either way, we’ll know more come April 28th, where we’ll be able to bring you all the news on the latest LG flagship.
