It seems like a lot of smartphone OEMs are trying to manufacture a device with no side bezels ever since Sharp introduces their Aquos Crystal handset. In case you don’t remember, the Aquos Crystal sported a rather sizeable chin below the display, but didn’t have any bezel above the display or on its sides, aside from the frame that is. That being said, a number of smartphone OEMs have released smartphones with extremely thin bezels, like Letv for example, but their handsets sport rather thick black bars on the sides, which kind of defeats the purpose. That being said, we’re still waiting for Oppo and ZTE to announce their handsets. ZTE’s Nubia Z9 will be launched in about two weeks and will be a true bezel-less handset according to the company’s General Manger. As far as Oppo R7 goes, well, the story is a bit more complicated here.
Oppo R7 was supposed to be a bezel-free device, but it turns out that won’t be the case. Oppo has curved the glass on top of the display in order to make it look like it doesn’t sport any bezels, but that’s not the case. This is actually quite a neat effect and might really appeal to some people. We’ve also heard some rumors regarding the ‘Plus’ version of Oppo’s upcoming R7 handset, even an image leaked yesterday. Today, we have a couple of additional images to share with you, and surprisingly enough, neither of these images actually goes hand-in-hand with the previously leaked Oppo R7 / R7 Plus images.
If you take a look at the gallery down below you’ll notice 5 images. The first three are supposed to showcase the Oppo R7, and the latter two Oppo R7 Plus. So, what’s the problem? Well, we’ve seen a ton of Oppo R7 images (and videos) and in every single one of them that handset sports 3 capacitive buttons below the display, this thing actually sports a physical home button flanked by capacitive buttons. That physical home button will allegedly double as a fingerprint scanner as well by the way. The device did, however, kept a similar design to the previously leaked variants of the device. The latter two images reportedly showcase the Oppo R7 Plus, but there’s something wrong here as well. The sensors above the display are in different places compared to the yesterday’s leak, which is more than odd.
So, what do we make out of all this? Well, Oppo will either announce more than one variant of both the Oppo R7 and R7 Plus, or some of these images are fake. Either way, rumors are saying that these two devices will launch on May 20, so we still have plenty of time to figure out what’s what.
