Sony has announced their Xperia Z Ultra phablet back in July 2013. Despite a ton of rumors we’ve stumbled upon last year, the company did not reveal its successor in 2014. The Xperia Z Ultra is a huge 6.4-inch phablet by Sony which actually managed to find its user base. Either way, some new info surfaced regarding its successor which might get which might finally get launched later in the year. Anyhow, let’s see what’s what, shall we.
According to Digitimes’ sources, Sony is working on a successor to their huge phablet. The source claims that the phablet is being manufactured in Taiwan. The source did not reveal any information regarding Z Ultra’s specifications, but they did mention that Sony is focusing on the mid and high-end devices, which we already knew. Sony hasn’t released such a huge device for quite some time now, the company did unveil the mid-range Xperia T2 Ultra 6-inch phablet back in January 2014, but nothing that big since then. The Xperia Z Ultra is still the company’s largest handset, and the Z4 Ultra (or whatever they decide to call it) will quite probably remain 6+ display size if Sony unveils it at all that is.
What about its specs? Well, as previously mentioned, we don’t have any spec information at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we can’t figure that part out ourselves. Sony’s upcoming phablet will quite probably sport similar specifications to their upcoming Xperia Z4 flagship. The Xperia Z4 Ultra will quite probably sport a 6.X-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) or QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 3GB of RAM and at least 32GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor will quite probably power on this device, and you can expect the usual Sony design here. You can also expect a 20.7-megapixel camera to be located on the back of this device, and Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available out of the box with Sony’s UI on top of Google’s OS, of course.
There you have it folks, it seems like Sony might release the Xperia Z Ultra’s successor after all. Unfortunately we don’t have much information at the moment, but we’ll let you know as soon as something new surfaces.
