The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge might have arrived and might be claiming all the headlines recently, but it is certainly not the only Samsung device to look out for. In fact, Samsung has another device, which in truth, is generating as much interest as the two Samsung S6 devices did prior to their release. This is, of course, Samsung’s next smartwatch. Now, this is not Samsung’s first wearable or even their first smartwatch. The company has been around the wearables block a number of times and are already considered to be one of the most varied wearable manufacturers (of the smartphone world, that is). However, like the hype before the twin Galaxy S6s, the reason people are waiting for this smartwatch, is that it looks to be different from the previous ones. Like the S6, it is rumored to be built from the ground up.
There have been a number of rumors surrounding Samsung’s next smartwatch, which was initially dubbed “Orbis”. Although more recently, it has been reported Orbis is likely to be called the Samsung Gear A. However, the rumors have also suggested that the device will offer some neat features, like a rotating bezel which also offers some control over the function of the device. Not to mention, wireless charging. That said, one of the biggest and most consistent rumors has been the Gear A will be a round smartwatch. Round watches seems to be what the public is craving and wanting and as such, Samsung has been largely reported to be listening to these requests and will therefore, produce their first round watch.
Well, if you were looking for any more confirmation, Samsung has all but confirmed that their next smartwatch will be a round smartwatch. Samsung has today announced that they are releasing the SDK to third-party developers prior to the launch of the device. As you would expect, if the device is changing the display to a round display, then developers will probably need to adjust their third-party offerings, to best utilize the look of the newly shaped display. However, more revealingly, the announcement (source link below) also included the image seen above and below, which clearly highlights a round watch. Not to mention, the image also highlights the likelihood of more integrated services from the likes of CNN, Yelp and Apposter.
