It was just a couple of days ago that Sony made their next generation flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z4 official. Unlike their rivals Samsung and LG however, Sony did not go with the QHD (2560 X 1440) screen resolution that’s both resource hungry and a bit of an overkill for a handheld device. Even though the announced phone is smaller than a lot of today’s bigger flagships, Sony apparently still feels the need to address the ‘compact’ segment with a rumored 4.7 inch device, basically covering their bases against Apple’s iPhone 6. However, Sony is not only cutting down on size with the Z4 Compact, but also scaling up with the rumored Z4 Ultra, going where no mainstream smartphone has ever gone before and that has apparently resulted in the enormous 6.44 inch display that goes one up on their last year’s mega phablet which ‘only’ came with a 6.4 inch one.
We have, over time, gotten used to a-dime-a-dozen reports of new devices from the Chinese regulator TENAA’s website, but on occasions, Indonesia’s Post and Telecom Regulator POSTEL and India’s Zauba (import and export data website) have also been equally helpful. From the information, it’s abundantly clear, that there is a multitude of Sony devices listed on the site being primed for launch and guessing which one is which, would be a hazardous preoccupation. Still, going by the model numbers of the previous generation compact flagship, the Z3 Compact, it is likely that the E5803 listed here might be the Xperia Z4 Compact and the E6833 listed on the site might be a successor to the previous generation Xperia Z Ultra. There were also some rumors some time back about a phone with a 5.9 inch QHD display, running Snapdragon 810 and that device might also be one of the devices listed on the site.
While none of the devices have been named on the regulator’s website, nor hardware specifications revealed, speculation is rife about Sony’s plans for their next generation devices and what they might have up their sleeves to take on Samsung, LG, HTC.
