Earlier this morning Huawei announced a few new smartphones, the Huawei P8, the Huawei P8 Lite, and the Huawei P8 Maxx devices, although none of these will be getting a U.S.-based release. Huawei did mention they will be launched internationally though in 30 different countries, and they announced that there would be a variant of the P8 coming to the U.S. later in the year more towards the Summer. That U.S. variant appears to have just been approved by the FCC, which means there aren’t too many steps left before the phone launches stateside. Huawei hasn’t mentioned when exactly during the Summer the phone would be launched, so there’s only the general time frame for the moment, which is slated to be sometime around May which is just next month.
The Huawei P8 comes equipped with a 5.2-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution and 424 ppi, as well as a 13MP rear-facing camera. It has an 8MP front-facing camera for video chat, is powered by the Huawei Kirin 930 64-bit octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM, and will come in either 16GB or 32GB models. The 16GB model has no microSD card support while the 32GB model will support cards up to 128GB according to the announcement earlier. It’s also powered by a 2,680mAh battery inside and will come running Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei’s Emotion UI version 3.1 on top.
Huawei never explicitly stated whether or not the U.S. variant of the P8 would have the same specifications or not, but they’ll likely be very similar if not the same exact hardware. It also isn’t known whether or not the U.S. variant will come in all the same colors as Huawei had announced at the event earlier which are carbon black, mystic champagne, titanium grey, and gold. The gold is almost a given it seems as that looks to be the trend right now with phone colors from multiple manufacturers. At the moment there is no U.S.-based pricing details, but there have been listed prices for the international models, which are set at €499 for the 16GB model and €599 for the higher-end 32GB model. Based on these prices the U.S. version shouldn’t be too much.
