It is Wednesday and while there are many benefits to reaching the middle of the typical work week, one of the more notable benefits from the android user’s perspective, is that Wednesday is also the day Google rolls out multiple updates to many of its services, features and apps. In short, it is ‘Google Wednesday’. One of the apps to already see an update being announced today was the Google Fit app. The big headline aspect of the update seems to be better integration of Wear functionality, with the inclusion of a new Wear face. Not to mention a new widget added in as well.
The next Google update to be formally announced seems to be an update which is rolling out to Docs and Slides. The common denominator between the two apps is images and as such, it should not be too much of a surprise that this update is image based. In particular, the update is relevant to the mobile version of the apps. The first feature noted in the update is the ability to more effectively insert images into documents or presentation from a mobile device. This includes the ability to add images directly from the camera roll. Including the ability to take an image right there and then with the camera and instantly add the image to a document or presentation. All from a mobile phone or tablet. The announcement on the updates (source link below) also states that the new functionality will be available to user’s even when they are working offline. That is, as long as the app they have installed is the newly updated app.
The announcement also states that images can be more effectively edited in Slides while on the go. Users can now double tap any image and then instantly enter crop mode and make any adjustments they require. As per usual with these types of updates, they are in the process of rolling out.
