Dragon Quest VIII
Dragon Quest VIII is the first game in the series to have landed on Android and offers up some of the most memorable RPG gameplay you’ll find anywhere. There’s hours of content and slick 3D visuals, a unique portrait mode gameplay style that allows you to play it one handed, and an endearing storyline to follow. It’s a bit pricey, but if you want a great JRPG which will take hours upon hours of your time, this is it.
Attack The Light
Attack The Light is an RPG game from Cartoon Network based on the Steven Universe series. It’s not your typical JRPG style of game but the combat is turn-based, making it look and feel like a JRPG so it earns a spot on this list. The game is actually quite good and breaks away from the norm for a fresh offering different from all the others.
Adventure Bar Story
This is a great little mashup of a JRPG and a simulation management game. You play as the main character who ends up owning a bar, and you’ll have to embark on an adventure to get the ingredients for your dishes which will see you battling monsters to get what you need. All of this, while you try to keep your bar in business and defend it from a buyout of the evil and rich Gustav, a rival restaurant owner who only cares for money.
Evoland
Evoland is more than just a JRPG, it’s actually more of a mix of all RPG’s, taking you through the evolution of the RPG genre and the fusing the different types of games in it together into one awesome title. You’ll get to experience all manner of RPG as you progress through the story for a unique experience with loads of nostalgia that all RPG fans should love.
Chaos Rings II
Chaos Rings II is an epic game which no RPG fan should miss. It’s story is dark and engaging, turn-based combat is fierce and the visuals are gorgeous to top it all off. The storyline is molded and shifted by the choices you make, giving you some control over how things end up, and there are hidden bosses and endings to discover which adds some replay value and incentive to play the game multiple times.
Doom & Destiny
Doom & Destiny is a great little RPG about four nerds who find themselves mistaken for heroes after they somehow end up in a fantasy world. It boasts about 20 hours of story gameplay alone, so if you love games with longevity this surely has it. There is also about 20 hours of extra content, likely sidequests and such, so it’s safe to say you’ll be able to spend quite a bit of time on this retro styled gem.
RPG Symphony Of The Origin
This is one of kemco’s greatest titles and is a true JRPG to the core. Retro NES/SNES style graphics for the main game with enhanced and more modern visuals for the combat, Symphony of The Origin can be enjoyed on your smartphone or tablet and it supports controllers. It even supports Android TV. There is loads of content here and the game is on sale for $3.99 down from $8.99 so grab it while it lasts.
Chrono Trigger
This is still hailed as the absolute best RPG of all time by many RPG fans, and with good reason. This classic SNES title can bring back fond memories for many who played the original and still entice newcomers with an adventure built around a story of a time traveling hero on a quest to save the planet’s future.
Ys Chronicles 1
Another great JRPG entry here, Ys Chronicles 1 follows the story of a young knight tasked with saving the kingdom of Esteria from an invading demon horde. It features adventure and time attack mode and it supports controllers so you can play either with the touchscreen or with a traditional gamepad. The game also supports Android TV so you can play on the big screen.
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VI is arguably one of the best in the franchise and is part of the series that made JRPG’s so popular. It’s a classic Final Fantasy adventure of dark vs light and the quest to save the crystals. It features some new content that was introduced in the 2006 remake version, and it now supports cloud save and has controller support so you can play traditionally if you wish while also playing on multiple different devices.
