Samsung has a tendency to flood the market, to say the least, once the spring Galaxy S flagship has been announced and released to consumers. Since it’s still early in the year, Samsung has yet to really capitalize on the popularity of the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and the Edge variant might very well be the reason why. But, as we’ve seen last week, Samsung is indeed working on yet another ‘Active’ variant of the S flagship of the year, this time taking the S6 moniker. The Galaxy S6 Active, which we saw leak both from a pass through the FCC as well as some images showing two possible color variations for the more rugged device, looks to be an interesting device whose presence might actually be warranted this year, especially given the glass construction of the S6 and S6 Edge. The phone seems to have had its User Agent Profile leaked, and it shows something that will please many Galaxy fans and people looking not to compromise when picking up a more rugged device for 2015 and beyond: the display resolution.
The S6 and S6 Edge featured gorgeous QuadHD, 2560 by 1440 pixel AMOLED display panels, and it looks like the S6 Active will come with a similar if not the same display on the front. The UserAgent Profile highlighted the section which discloses the resolution of the related device, as well as the model number for the device, which was 1440 by 2560 and SM-G890A respectively. The Galaxy S6 Active, much like its less-active siblings, is rumored to feature the same Exynos 7420 octa-core powerhouse processor, as well as 3 gigabytes of RAM to smooth the experience of a TouchWiz based Android 5.x (Lollipop). The phone will also purportedly house a removable 3,500 mAh battery which, along with likely the same 16 and 5-megapixel rear-front camera arrangement as the the S6 and S6 Edge, will make this a high-demand product for Samsung fans wanting the removable battery, or just fans of the same.
We can also expect it to, according to the previously mentioned leaked photos of the color variants, expect the device to have the same physical buttons on the front, as well as a more ruggedized appearance and housing, protecting the device with a possible, and in line with the S5 Active, IP67 water and dust resistance rating. Though Samsung has gone high-class with its spring flagships, the company is still looking for market coverage, and the S6 Active may be just the device to get the job done for tougher users.
