Huawei has been really busy as far as device launches go. The company has released six new devices in a very short time span, and three out of those six devices are actually a part of the company’s flagship P8 line. This China-based tech giant has released the Huawei P8, P8Max and P8 Lite handset, which were followed by the launch of a mid-range smartphone and two mid-range tablets. Huawei’s P8 flagship was announced last month, and its availability is fairly limited at the moment, though it’s rolling out to a number of markets as we speak. Despite the fact Huawei P8 launched about a month ago, it seems like the company is already working on its successor.
According to the source, Huawei has already begun testing the Huawei P9 in China, and the device is codenamed ‘IP03’. The Huawei P7 and P8 were codenamed ‘IP01’ and ‘IP02’, respectively, so this makes sense. The rumor says that the device will be somewhat different than the P8, it will reportedly be curved and sport a fingerprint scanner on its back. It’s far too early to say, but according to some leaked info, the P9 might sport a 5.2-inch display, 16-megapixel OIS camera and feature the company’s new, yet unreleased, HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor. This chip is expected to hit the market at the end of the year and will reportedly be manufactured using TSMC’s 16nm process.
If this info is accurate, the Huawei P9 will offer improved camera sensor and significantly more powerful processor on the inside. Don’t expect this thing to hit the market anytime soon though, the Huawei P9 almost certainly won’t’ see the light of day before 2016, late Q1 2016 perhaps, or something like that. Smartphone manufacturers usually start testing a product way before it’s actually ready to be released, not to mention that the Kirin 950 processor won’t be ready for another 6 months or so. Either way, Huawei has done a really good job designing their P8 flagship this year, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the company has to offer a year from now.
