Nexus rumors appear to be heating up rather quickly these days. We’ve been hearing since Mobile World Congress that Huawei would be making this year’s Nexus smartphone. Just recently, the rumor was that Huawei would have a 5.7-inch Nexus smartphone, and later on we heard that LG was back in the mix and would be making a 5.2-inch model. Now, according to Android Pit, it appears that LG has confirmed to them that they are making a Nexus this year. According to Android Pit’s post, “We now have confirmation from sources within LG that the company is indeed considering making the 2015 Nexus.”
It’s still important to take this with a grain of salt however. While this is apparently confirmed, things do happen. Not to mention sources can make stuff up, as that has happened before. A good example is the Nexus 4 leaks we saw a few years ago. On the other hand, Google could decide not to do two Nexus smartphones this year, or choose another manufacturer altogether. Even though it is pretty late in the year to do that, actually. Especially since you need to test the device then get it in mass production, and there’s only about 5 months left to do so.
LG made the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Many would say that LG did a great job, which I agree with. And it would be great to see LG doing another Nexus this time around. With the rumors of there being two Nexus smartphones this year, one can’t help but wonder if this is Android Silver coming to light. In case you forgot, most of last year – especially the first half of the year – there were tons of rumors that Google was revamping the Nexus program and it was internally named Android Silver. Which basically was going to give us a choice of Nexus devices. That were premium, with better customer service. While the Nexus 6 was premium, we didn’t get much of a choice last year. So far, it’s looking like we might have a choice this year, though. If LG makes a Nexus smartphone modeled after the LG G4, I think they’d sell pretty well, especially with that leather back. But somehow, I don’t think we’ll see a removable battery.
